I am a sophomore this year, and I'm looking into classes for Junior Year next year. The courses I want to take next year are:

American Studies (APUSH/AP LANG)
PreCal H
Physics H
Environmental Science AP
Music Theory AP
Psychology AP (semester only) & Virtual Business (semester only)

My weighted GPA is about a 3.9. My rank is in the top 25% of my high school--I can't remember what it is, I think it changed though.

I'm taking a lot of AP courses, do you think it would be a good idea to stick with 5 (4 one semester, 5 the other) APs during Junior Year? Most people I know are doing 3-5 APs. I'm also doing 4+ extracurriculars next year: piano, science fair, a religious group, and psychology club. And SATs are also that year, which I need to study for. Will it be too stressful for me to handle, and is it a good idea to take this many APs? And I'm not taking them for the high GPA value--I'm mainly taking them because they interest me, and I have no room to take them during senior year.

I also plan to pursue a career in psychology or environmental sciences, another reason why I am taking AP Psychology and AP Environmental Science.

I have lots of music experience (7 years of piano, 4 years violin), and I'm self studying psychology over summer to help me with it over the school year. I have a solid music background, and I have an okay knowledge of psychology as well.

Currently I'm taking AP European History and AP World History--making A's and B's in both.

How are AP Music Theory, AP Psychology, and AP Environmental Sciences in terms of difficulty? How easy is it to make good grades in these courses? Should I keep these AP courses, or switch them out for something else?

Well it really depends on yourself. Do you think you can handle it? If you believe you can handle it, then go for it. I know people with tremendously busy schedules, but they somehow juggle everything from sports, work, and school. It’s all about teh time management. And the difficulty in getting the grade really depends on your teacher. If you really plan on pursuing those majors, than why would you switch out? Do things that you love doing, don’t get scared away because of the workload that some people may claim is severe, or the class is hard. After all, it may be different for you.

My counselor wants me to switch out though…but my parents don’t want me to. They are worried that it will be a lot of stress though–I really don’t want to drop anything. I most likely will be able to handle it…I’m doing all Honors and AP this year (2 AP, 5 H).

I just want to get a general idea of what those AP courses will be like, to get an idea of what other people’s experience was and what they thought of the course.

Well your apush and AP lang should balance each other (a lot of lang courses do u.s. stuff so they cross over)

Psych is not a very difficult AP compared to others (in my opinion because it is usually pretty interesting)

I have heard music theory is hard (but you said you have piano)

Honestly, it depends on how difficult the AP classes are at your school. Some teachers are insane and grade the course harder than a college course-while others you can get an A in really easily. If I were you I would ask kids in the years above you to see what they thought of the course.

Alright. It’s good that the two cross over. Yeah, I heard Psych is somewhat easy. Heard AP Music Theory is kinda hard, but yeah, I have piano. Will ask some more people. Thanks for your help. :)
