I’m currently a sophomore taking 3 honors classes, no AP. My schedule was messed up so I wasn’t able to take AP chemistry, but I’m planning to at a community college over the summer. I hear junior year at my school is hell, and what I’m planning on taking so far is:
AP Art History
AP Calculus AB
AP Environmental Science
AP US History
AP English Language
Intro to Psych
Intro to Sociology
I’m kind of nervous since I’ve never taken an actual AP class as of yet. My friends in AP chemistry say that that class is really rigorous on its own, so with my probable schedule, would the workload be like taking five AP chemistry classes? What are those AP classes like, and should I cut any of them if the workload will seem like too much?
Why do you need to take 2 history classes at once? They are quite time consuming.
If you have to cut one AP, it should definitely be Art History, since the other 4 are core classes.
Calc, Lang, and APUSH are difficult but very worthwhile. APUSH is really time-consuming but the other two are more reasonable. Seems like a good combination of rigor.
Also, I’ve heard Intro to Psych is seen as a “fluff” class by some. Can you go directly to AP Psych?
If you’re worried about too much difficulty, I would take just Calc, Lang and APUSH or those 3 in combination with either APES or Art History. Your course load definitely sounds challenging.
I took 5 and I was fine. Know your teachers tho
Edit: Just saw you jumped from 0 to 5…idk that might be trickier
I’m in a humanities magnet so it’s mandatory I take both junior year. I would only take one if I could.
I took five AP classes as a junior:
AP Lang
AP Gov
AP Calc AB
AP Physics 1
AP Statistics
I managed fine.
Considering that you never took an AP class before, you might want to loosen one to a regular, or an honor/Pre-AP class. I’ve heard from an older friend that one of his friends took 4 AP classes (never taking an AP course before), and he eventually failed one of the classes. So, loosen up one AP class, I recommend taking away your weakest subject (if you had trouble with math, do not take AP Calculus).
