Hey guys,
I’m a current junior and I was creating my senior year schedule with my guidance counselor recently. My current schedule and grades are:
AP Psych - Currently have a B
APES - Currently have an A
Honors English 3 - Will receive a B
Honors US History - Will receive a B
Public Speaking - Will receive an A
CP Precalculus - Next Semester
Art 1 - Next Semester
Computer - Next Semester
Also Self - Studying for AP French (I am fluent in French)
I have done very little school work for these classes. I have around half an hour of homework/ night. So I am deciding to beef up my schedule next year. However, I am unsure if I am unable to handle the difficulty of classes.
AP Gov
AP Econ
AP Lit
AP Stats
AP Bio
Will this be too much to handle? Are any of these classes worth dropping to CP/Honors?
Thanks
Ephus
Probably, if you are tracking to a 3.4 with 2 AP’s. Since your getting B’s in Honors English and social studies, I’m not sure it makes sense to do AP in those subjects next year.
Ideally it is better to receive an A in a CP/Honors class than below an A in an AP class. Unless you really need the college credit, I think you should take 3 AP classes. Personally I would take regular literature, but that is because I am planning to go into computer science. You should consider which ones would be useful for your major or which ones you are really good at. Good luck!!!
I would cut AP bio and AP lit from your schedule.
You could try to take AP English Language if your school allows you to, since it’s a very useful class in many respects, that includes not just literature but also nonfiction, articles, etc.
So:
AP gov
AP economics
AP stats
Possibly AP English Language
Plus one science and other subjects.
Is your AP Gov and AP Econ courses a semester each? If so, then you sit at 4 AP classes each semester? If you are getting many B’s in your AP courses, I agree with the above posters that you want to show course rigor, but you may be sacrificing your GPA. It will also depend upon which schools you plan to apply, since some will consider Mid-year Senior grades and some will not in their admission decisions. The worse thing you can do is take a heavy rigorous load Senior year, do poorly and possibly jeopardize any acceptances you may get.
If AP Gov/Econ are semester course, keep those. Keep AP Stats and AP English Language. If you want to take a science, take either a regular or honors science.
Thanks for all the feedback guys! My school does not allow seniors to take AP Lang senior year, juniors take lang and seniors to Lit. I go to a fairly rigorous high school so the honors courses are almost just as hard as the AP classes. I may decide to drop down to CP english since I hate reading though
I wouldn’t recommend dropping to cp English though. English honors is fine and probably less reading than AP lit but you want to show good rigor AND you want to prepare for college, where reading a lot all the time for every class is a given.
