Hi everyone I have a feeling days left till my SAT and I didn’t spend that mucy time on memorizing vocab. Is there anything I can do. Should I memorize all the direct hits 1&2 words (400-500). Wha can I do for these feel days to makesure i will be good for Senate completitions
Bump
I’m in the same boat as you are. Personally, I’m memorizing a shoot ton of vocabulary right now, even though it’s not really recommended to cram right before (3 days of studying left, not counting Friday since it’s not the best idea to stress yourself out the day before). But I feel like it’s more beneficial to do so as opposed to reviewing prefixes or roots. For instance, what does disinterested mean? Not interested? It actually means unbiased. I find prefixes, roots, suffixes misleading sometimes, so I’ve decided to take my chances and just memorize tons of vocabulary words. Best of luck!
Good luck to you! Are you using direct hits? @samsunguser
@samsunguser It can actually mean not interested as well, depending on the context
Your best bet is to focus on actual sentence completions at this stage of the game (depending on your time available).
Don’t get to focus on learning new words right now.
Some things you could depending on time and resources:
-DL the SAT QOTD app, working through the sentence completion questions there. You should get access to about 10.
- Work through the sentence completions questions from the free SAT tests available online. That should give you another 40 or so.
- Repeat the above step with the BB if you have it.
- If you feel like doing an intensive exercise with explanations, as well as brushing up on second meanings (very NB), get hold of The Critical Reader. If you do just one thing I’d recommend this.
The Merriam Webster dictionary app is helpful to keep close by when working. It allows you to mark words for future reference. Bear in mind that a strong understanding of “easy” words will usually allow you answer at least 80% of questions with confidence.
Good Luck
@anxiousenior1 Oh I didn’t know that, I guess I should’ve picked a better example! Thanks, will keep that in mind for Saturday!
@ZanZan I’m using a combo of Princeton Review’s and the ones out of Barron’s CR Workbook (which I feel like is mostly if not all the same, since I’ve seen some of the same vocabulary on my friend’s direct hits flashcard set).
Literally nothing. Memorizing vocab is pointless. There are hundreds of thousands of possible words that you may see on the exam. The odds you see a word you studied is infinitesimal. The word fill ins are a very small part of your grade. Ignore that and practice other skills. Vocab memorization is one of the most useless parts of SAT prep.
