Hi all,
My son currently a high school senior who has been accepted to both Rutgers soe and sas is planning to study 5 year physics engineering dual degree from Rutgers. He is brilliant in mathematics and physics and has taken ap calc ab/bc junior year with 5 on ap test and currently is taking ap physics C. He shows inclination on becoming an engineer but also has a passion for learning physics. I would appreciate if anyone could please give any inputs on how hard it would be managing a dual degree and would it be worth having a dual degree.
Thank you
Engineering is already a lot of credits per semester and these credits are very intensive. (for reference, I came in with 28 credits and still had to take 17 per semester freshman year) I have friends doing a double major in engineering who are in the honors college and came in with 50+ credits already so are already very intelligent and which requires less amount of credits because you do not have to complete the core requirements for SAS as well. I do not know if dual degree provides any extra benefits over a double major but it is a lot more work than a double major. But since it is a five year program, you might be able to graduate in that time as these friends who are double majoring are on a 4 year time table.
