5 year suspension coming to an end

Hello,
My 5 year suspension is coming to an end. Can my college I got suspended from deny me re-entry for any reason or would it be a simple re-entry to my college

There’s no way we can know the answer to the question. You should call the school and ask.

Depends upon the terms of your suspension.

Suspension typically means interruption, not rescission.

Have you complied with the terms of your suspension ?

Have you violated any terms of your suspension ?

Does the suspension require filing an application in order to be considered for readmission ?

If so, what standards are to be applied to any required application for reinstatement (or readmission) ?

Was the “suspension” negotiated ?

A suspension is not an expulsion.

It depends on the terms of your suspension. It also can be entourage to the college. When my son took a Leave of Absence, he had Three years to return without having to reapply to the school. It was spelled out in writing in a letter and had no other terms or requirements. But that is not usually the case with a suspension.

My friend’s son was suspended and had to complete a satisfactory full time term at another school to be CONSIDERED for readmittance . He did this and was denied anyways which was a huge surprise and blow because both student and parents assumed that when he complied with the requirements to be readmitted, he would be. But that was not what the letter said. He had to go through a readmission process and a committee made the decision whether the school should take him back. He ended up transferring elsewhere and getting his degree there. Not at his first school.

So it all hinges on the terms of your suspension, whether any guarantees are given, and if there is a readmission process which determines whether you can come back or not.

In my post above, I wrote “A suspension is not an expulsion.”.

This is not necessarily true as one can negotiate the wording involved in a disciplinary action.

For example, you or your representative could have negotiated for an expulsion document to only use the word suspension so as to give you leeway when filling out applications which ask “Have you ever been expelled?”

Of course, all apps would ask for details of any disciplinary action, but the reality is that revealing a “suspension” can have less negative effect than revealing an “expulsion”.

The terms of my contract say nothing except that I’m suspended until the end of 2019.

Then you must talk to the dean of the school who takes care of these matters and ask what your options are with that college. “Do you have to reapply?”is a crucial question.

If you do not have a guaranteed renter, you might want to start looking for other options.

I remember your other thread. You were caught plagiarizing at least twice at your top 20 school and while you were in the middle of a round of disciplinary hearings for that you took an exam for a friend. You didn’t seem remorseful for your actions and hoped to classify the expected 2 year suspension for plagiarizing as a “voluntary withdrawal.” Since you got a 5 year suspension I gather the professor reported you for the exam you took.

I would assume the 5 year suspension is a soft expulsion. It’s not listed that way on your record but I wouldn’t expect them to look favorably on a new application. I would explore other options.

I would die if I couldn’t finish my college. Studying hard getting into engineering school was the only thing I value.

You need to be discussing this with your university, right away. Do not be surprised if they tell you bluntly that you can’t return. Meanwhile, you should make plans to apply to other universities. Hopefully in the last five years you have been productive and will be able to provide references from employers of respected community members who can vouch that you have been an honest and hard worker. In your shoes, I oiled keep modest expectations bout where you might be accepted. You should also consider seeking professional advice from a expert in problematic college situations. Good luck.

Apparently you didn’t value integrity and honesty.

Different time. Different me. Sometimes, you are so disturbed and suffering from trauma that you stop caring for what you worked so hard for.

How can they tell me I can’t return when the letter says I have a suspension until the end of the year? Wouldn’t that become a lawsuit?

Readmissions are almost always conditional.

What have you been doing for the last 5 years? That’s a long time to be away from engineering studies

If it’s that important that you get back there, you should address all of this to the school. Nothing we say here makes any difference. It’s up to the school. We can guess, theorize , pontificate all day. It’s entirely their call

Did my masters online at an Ivy League
Got some certifications
Worked at a Fortune 500 and now a government entity

What does it mean that it’s up to them? Shouldn’t that be stated in the suspension letter?

Have you asked your school what you need to do to be readmitted? If not, why not?

I’m going to. A friend was saying to wait until October but the anxiety/excitement is killing me

So what the heck are you doing, going back to a UG program, now that you have your masters? It makes no sense. You are done with college at this point, are you not?
