50,000+ students?

Okay so this question is geared more towards those who attended the University. Both Wikipedia and the College Board state that UF has over 50,000+ students in total [undergrad and grad]. Does it feel a bit over crowded or is it more relax then what numbers might push you to expect? Also...large colleges usually mean large [freshmen] classes. Is it a drastic change from a small 21 student classroom in high school or does it generally feel the same?

There are a lot of people, but UF’s campus has to be one of the largest in the nation and so that helps. Yes, some freshmen classes are large (but usually the biggest ones are just done online), but this isn’t always the case. I took a Calc II class at UF and the class had 20 people in it.

No, it doesn’t feel overcrowded. Class size is entirely dependent on what courses you choose to take. In theory, one could pick their classes in a way that guarantees the total students for the class never exceeds 30. However, you would probably be taking more difficult classes in that instance, considering most people flock towards the ‘easy a’ classes.

Yes, there are a lot of people, but it doesn’t feel overcrowded. Some of your freshman classes will be large - that was one of my biggest fears in going there - but it was an incredibly easy transition. The classes with a ton of people are usually the classes that are extremely easy, anyway, and don’t require too much.

It’s a big school that is over 2,000 acres total.

The key is to find a niche. Over 800 student organizations to choose from.
