50% acceptance rate?

they don't evaluate candidates from different schools, they evaluate you with people from your region. So for example, if I lived in Missisippi, I would be compared with people from Alabama, Florida schools etccc...
So X number of adcoms only evaluate people from specific areas.

Also, to the two Koreans posters above me...I feel for both of you!! Because I only recently got my perm. resident status..like 15 days before the ED deadline for Cornell. I was so psyched..cos I wasn't even gonna apply anywhere if I didn't get perm. residency since there's no way I could afford priv. colleges without financial aid. But good luck nonetheless, I'm sure you're both very qualified =)

Do international students who apply ED get a break???

i heard that they do generally accept many internationals yet reject if they applied for FA since cornell can't afford to pay for them or whatever.....

I mean,, do international students stand a better chance of getting accepted if the person is not applying for FA and has a fair gpa, scores, good essay, and stuff???

I believe if you don't apply for FA, you stand a fair chance because they like the fact that you don't want money ;)

dunno my career center specialist told me that
intl. who didn't apply for FA shouldn't have hard time getting in so

fingers crossed

haha that's funny. hehe

so the need-blind admission is not included for internationals?

need-blind is basically a joke. Anybody knows that if your parents donate a huge endowment to the college..u'll have a MUCH BETTER CHANCE getting in.
My friend who is a complete...dumbo is applying to Duke, and she will definitely get in...because guess what?? Her dad is Brett favre...ya..that's right. So first of all: NO FA NEEDED, secondly: BRETT FAVRE!! HELLO????
Ugh. College admission is so abitrary.

Also, how do you think Bush's daughter got into Yale. A JOKE!!

so the need-blind admission is not included for internationals?

[/quote]
Nope. This goes towards a number of private colleges. For internationals, finaid is a factor, unfortunately.

Bush's daugheters denied Yale and attended UT.

Jenna Bush: UT Austin
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jenna_Welch_Bush#Personal_life
Barbara Bush: Yale
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbara_Pierce_Bush_(twin)

lol noone ever straight out answered their question...no its not need blind for intl. Good luck and I hope you all get in! Congrats asianjewel on ur situation...great timing lol. Anyways, best of luck everyone!

"if we both get in maybe we can join a korean club or sth lol"

Or you could consider joining a non-racial club. If that's the first thing you are going to do here, don't even bother coming.

Well no its ok to join a racial club...its just self-segregating urself throughout ur college experience that is disadvantageous to both u and other people

wow
i meant that as a joke
sorry if you were offended

besides, being discriminated for being an over represented race or an international student of other race is unfair but no one flat out says that's wrong or anything... why is theoratically joining a racial club wrong? (freedom of assembly...)

No it's just that people don't want people to self-segregate themselves thats all. It's not at all offensive...it's quite the opposite.

lol..........what's wrong with segragating yourselves? Who cares, besides yourself?

^^^ That's being open-minded...

At first I thought 50 percent was crazy, but now I think it's plausible. Looking at this webpage: http://admissions.cornell.edu/downloads/2010_profile.pdf

And assuming 700 applied to CAS and 350 got in (ED), then here are some percentages:

Percent ED Applicants who are CAS (700/2848): 24.5
Percent ED Applicants who are admits for CAS (350/1109): 31.5
Percent of total university enrolled in CAS (4251/13468): 31.5

It's too early to analyze what this means, but I don't think it's a coincidence that going off of the premise that CAS has a 50 percent acceptance rate, 31.5 matches up for two criteria, and that's greater than the 24.5 for those who apply.
