500 point increase by October 4th or December 6th?

Would this be possible? I am going to be a Junior next year, and want to give my best shot at the October SAT. I have been prepping for about 3 months now and during that period my scores went from 1600's to 1900's. Not great, but I didnt completely prepare that seriously. I am not exactly keeping october as a deadline but more of a first look at the SAT. I have to get done with the SAT by december as there is no way I can prep for SAT after that due to complete lack of time, and I know it would be wasting money if I took it after december. Thanks.

Last Test Scores: (PR)

M: 700
CR: 530
W: 650/MC: 66/Essay: 10

From 1600 to 2100 or 1900 to 2400? A 500 point increase is a lot...

Yeah a 1940 to a 2400 is nearly impossible, but a 1940 to 2200 while is still difficult is possible.

Sorry, but that's probably not going to happen. If you got a 1940, you really shouldn't be aiming for a 2400. Set reasonable goals, like +70 per section. Then, if you meet that, try again 'till you hit your ceiling.

But i want to emphasize that I have barely started any prep, once i put in efforrt and actually starrt memorizing words, I can improve a good deal right?. I will be a junior next year, so if i want to score 2300+ when is my best bet of taking the SAT? Also Ashraf Eassa I got a 1940 in a PR practice test i took recently, i have never taken an offical SAT test so far.

Why are you arguing with people who are simply trying to give you their opinions? Nobody cares what you're trying to emphasize. Why are you even asking a "If its possible" question on CC? let alone anywhere. Do you want a cookie for "barely starting any prep"? looks like your looking for attention more than anything. You know yourself better than anyone else and i respect the fact that you want outside advice, but these questions are just pointless. Anythings possible. Just do your best and find out dude.

^ that's a bit harsh but i see your point. Harvardbound, ppl gave you their opinion, now dont try to justify your point or anything because that only makes it sound like you want to hear something like "yes you can do it!" and you're not hearing that so you feel the need to explain every detail in the situation.... in my honest opinion, yes, you can do it!

I'd say you go ahead and take a real one.

The math is really not that hard on the SATs if you know the material; it's easy to prepare for. 700 means you got like what, 7 questions wrong? It's possible to get 800 still.

For CR, just start reading the newspaper daily; I hear that's a great way to improve your reading. Vocabulary can be studied as well, if that's your weakness. It's not too difficult.

Writing can definitely be improved; just keep taking practice tests and you'll see their little tricks are very repetitive.

Another thing, you don't need a 2400 to get into Harvard.. I would just go and be more realistic if I were you. If you're getting 1900 right now, even with little prep, it's kind of hard to say you have a good shot at 2400. But CR and writing are obviously your weaknesses right now, so go ahead and focus on them for now

Go for it! You shouldn't let the posters on this thread bring down. Because for me, within 9 months, I increased from a 1690 to 2020 and I still studying for a 2200.

Good luck!

So what would be a reasonable/realistic score jump for a person (like HarvardBound) that has a mid-1900 score?

I had a 430 point increase. 167 PSAT--->2100. I was happy and I feel like there is a llot more to my application than test scores so I am just taking my 2100 and running with it.
Just remember the higher you get the harder it is to increase. Each question becomes weighted a ton more.

That's solid. This kind of increase (~300 points) in 9 months is what I'd consider the average feat (among highly intelligent CC folk who study hard). Most people don't increase at all from their initial assessment, mostly because they don't study. And even most that do study will rarely surpass a 150 point increase.

Now, Mr. Harvardbound. . . . Let's say your 1900 was an actual SAT score. If in three months you scored a 2400 on a retake, CB would automatically assume you cheated, and you'd have a very hard time proving to them (or anyone else) that you didn't. Let's assume for the moment that you have the potential to score that high (which is a huge assumption, considering how few people score in that range). That kind of improvement takes a lot of time and hard work. The answer to your overall question "is a 500 point increase possible by December" is a resounding no, especially considering how easy (and flawed) PR tests are. Get this fantastic idea of scoring a 2300 a year before your college application deadline out of your head. You have over a year to submit your final SAT score, and even if you manage to score a 2300 a year from November it will be a truly amazing feat.

I wouldn't take the real one until at least January (and then without a doubt retake it in later months). The tacit "limit" of SAT attempts among most universities is 3. You can take it as many times as you like, but after 3 it starts to become sketchy, and your score will lose some of its weight. If you're really aiming as high as you say you are, you should plan out your 3 attempts now. I'd suggest January, March, and June, which would give you the summer to prepare for your SAT IIs.

Oh, and one other thing: stop taking PR tests. Burn your "11 practice tests" book and buy the BB. Seriously, burn it. I'm not kidding.

hey,no matter what, don't lose your heart......you got to show what you r made of.......dream big,but to nourish the dream don't forget to work hard

Are you going to study for the PSAT in October? I would study for that and then plan to take the SAT in December. You can still take it again several more times after that if you need to.

Thanks all, I will try to score my best, and the main reason for the post was to see if anyone else was able to accomplish anything of the sort (400~pt increase or so) within such a short period of time. Btw, Godfatherbob I am taking the online course of PR and I got some tests mailed to me, and thats what I was doing. I do have the BB, but I am doing 3 sections of it everyday, from the tests rather than take a complete one. I figured I would do that once im done w. PR. Also I understand you guys are presenting your opinions and I am thankfull for that also. Thanks for all of your opinions!

way to go,harvardbound, cheers on your future success :)

good luck with your scores harvardbound...you can do it
i had a 430 point increase and I studied for 2.5/3 months

Completely possible. I improved 800 points in 8 months. :D

Got 1300 and jumped to 2100ish. Going to retake it in October; aiming for 2300 this time.

Thanks guys, I will aim high and try hard. It seems people have been able to achieve something along this scale, (800 pts wow!) Also, I heard this a couple times, are PR tests easier than the real one? I took one today and did MUCH better than expected.

psh PR tests are weird. Okay? Some are hard as hell, some are okay, some are easy... i took one last week and had an 1890... took on this week.. had a 1690!! 200 point drop in 1 week.... that's insane... while on BB tests.. i score in the 1900s.. So PR tests are weird. I use em for the sake of practice.
