Well you have a 10 on your essay! Read the grammar section of Silverturtle’s awesome guide:

Get the blue book and practice the writing sections. In my opinion, the writing section is extremely predictable. The same concepts are tested over and over again. Sometimes, on Improving sentences, you can predict exactly what concept CB is testing you on. You just need to put in the work!

lawlz Essay 10 is commendable.
I posted a thread that shows the types of errors that I found. They might serve as useful information as well. Silverturtle’s guide is, by the way, simply amazing. If you’d just organize your mind and systematically eliminate the wrong answer choices, then you are definitely going to get an 800. And yes, as Jayxbx said, practice matters a LOT.

I’ll look through you posts to see if I can find anything. Thanks, guys! :)

when i took my psat in 9th grade, my score was really bad (similar to yours i think). but i got a 800 on the march SAT, so i’ll try to tell you what i did.

go to:
Handouts
print out every handout relating to grammar- that’s what I did (it came out to be like 2-3 inches thick)- and read everything carefully.

my score went up a lot after that. hope i helped. :)

going from 580 to perfection is not really feasible. however, it is feasible to try to pull your score into the mid-700s if you work at it hard enough.

you should be able to get 700+ easily. The MC is really easy to nail and it’s almost predictable every time.

I disagree with IBfootballer. I don’t see how it would be feasible to pull your score to the mid-700’s but unfeasible to score perfectly. The writing portion is extremely predictable and with enough practice you’ll generally be able to “hear” where there’s a mistake. It helps many people to read grammar guides (I highly suggest the Silverturtle or Sparenotes guides) but for some, with enough practice, they can eliminate choices based on visceral responses. Good luck.

The single best strategy I’ve found for the Writing Section is physically crossing out ALL incorrect answer choices for every question. It gives you confidence that you haven’t made any stupid mistakes.

Thanks, everyone!

@IBfootballer: How do you suggest I raise my score given the results on my official score report?
