I need help deciding if I should take AP lit next year as a senior.

Other AP's I have already put down:

AP Calc AB
AP Physics C
AP Biology
AP Euro

I am decent at English and have been recommended for AP Lit. To switch it to honors English, I would loose other subjects that I plan on taking so I am leaning towards taking lit. I like general reading, but not Shakespeare or Dickens.

Any info on how your class/test was would be greatly appreciated!

I know that we didn't read a whole lot of Shakespeare (only two plays) in my Lit class and no Dickens. Depending on what books you read, AP Lit can actually be a very fun and rewarding class (My Lit class demanded so much from me, but it was definitely rewarding.)

I think you should take it. Plus, if you're going to lose your other AP's, it isn't worth it.

If I could ask a few more questions:

How much poetry is involved?
How was the actual test?

On the test: You usually have a couple of poems on the multiple choice section. As far as essays go, there is one poem selection you have to analyze.

In my class: There wasn't a heavy amount of poetry involved, but it varies for every high school and class. I read Dickens sophomore year, but not the past year. As far as Shakespeare goes, we read Hamlet and that was it. We also read 1984, Ethan Frome, The Scarlet Letter, and maybe one other that I can't remember right now. But again, it differs in every class/high school.

I would take it, especially if you took AP English Language. It's difficult but worth the time.

Thanks for your input!

I haven't taken AP Lang, but I think I'm going to do Lit next yr. I just need to learn better time management.

I think you should take AP Eng. Lit.
