Ultimately, it would seem that these programs aren’t a major risk for the offering universities. The horror stories making the news about students not able to graduate because of the lack of classes probably don’t represent the principle reason why students don’t graduate on time. I suspect that those students are easily outnumbered by those who fail a class, have to cut back on classes in order to work, or change majors at a late date.

<p>Yes, that is likely the main reason for late graduation at many schools, although class unavailability is a problem at some schools (at least one poster here mentions it at CSU Sacramento, while others mention it for community colleges).</p>

<p>Also, the schools making the “4 year graduation guarantees” are likely the ones which have the least problem of insufficient class space availability, even though some have very low 4 year graduation rates (e.g. 6% at Boise State).</p>
