Graduating on time has become a bigger deal as college costs have continue to escalate. I have heard stories that some people end up going back to junior college because they are unable to register for classes at some Cal State schools and get discouraged.
Please provide feedback for all Cal State campuses on how likely it is to register for classes to be able to graduate within 4 or even 5 years. Also please state your major. Thanks
@Baylorpoly: Cal states are pretty generous with AP/IB or DE course credits.
My younger son at SDSU (CS major) got credit for 5 courses due to passing his AP exams. This allows him to graduate in 3 1/2 years by opting out of these courses. Also since he had AP credits as an in-coming Freshman (38), he is only a 2nd year but has Junior level standing allowing him to have a higher registration priority.
As an in-coming Freshman, at least at SDSU, you are given priority for registering to allow to get the courses your need. Also SDSU just started using a waitlist system for classes, so no more crashing. He waitlisted 2 classes this semester was able to get into both.
Much will depend upon the CSU, if you are in the Honors college (priority registration) or if they offer a 4 year pledge (again priority registration). The large GE courses are usually the most difficult to get. If you are flexible with your class times and professors, graduating in 4 years is very possible.
