Hi CC, on the June SAT I got 800 CR, 680 M, and 780 W. The relatively low Math score stands out, and I was hoping to get it in line with the others when I take the SAT again in October. I'm aiming for 750 plus, which might seem unreasonable, but you have to consider the fact that I scored 680 with zero studying. My question is simple; how should I go about studying for SAT math?

SAT math is actually very easy to improve. a 680 to 750 is not unlikely given the time that you have.

I suggest practicing, practicing, practicing, and getting to know the TYPES of questions and the TYPES of answers on the test. Analyze which types of questions (ie- geometry, probablity, etc) you are having the most trouble with and study those from Gruber’s or other prep books.

I’m aiming for the same thing, haha, and my sat scores are almost exactly the same (i’m 20 pts lower on math). I’m just practicing my way to october, starting out reviewing things and learning how to do things I didn’t really know how to do (somehow i pretty much skipped over number sequences, etc. throughout all the math classes i’ve taken) and then planning on improving speed. Can’t know for sure if it’s working yet but i definitely feel more confident, anyway…

It is very possible. I went from a 700 M to 790 M without any studying. With studying, you should be fine.

I went from a 650 to a 740 by practicing PR’s 11 practice test TIMED and bought/read bob miller’s sat math for the clueless about a week or two before. Would highly recommend both books.

Spend 30 minutes a day reviewing SAT prep books’ advice on the math section. Then take all eight of the math sections of the College Board’s Official Study Guide to the New SAT (this one, aka Blue Book http://www.amazon.com/Official-SAT-Study-Guide/dp/0874477182/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1247526939&sr=8-1 ). After each test, check your wrong AND right answers in the Test Masters Complete Solutions Manual for the New SAT. You can also check the answers to the Official Guide’s math problems in a much more abbreviated from on this free website [Preparing For SAT Test](Preparing For SAT Test (solutions, examples))

LEARN your weaknesses and spend time learning strategies for answering those types of questions form the approaches taken in the solutions manuals.
