What are some of the harder 7/8 year med programs to get into? What are some of the less competitive ones?

There are very few 7-year programs (BU and George Washington are two I am familiar with but know there are others out there) but there are a considerable number of universities - public and private - that have 8 year or guaranteed admission where students are accepted into the medical school (assuming a certain GPA maintained typically) as freshman. All of these programs - like more traditional medical school admissions - are extremely competitive, regardless of the selectivity of undergraduate admissions, since schools typically only accept a handful of students.

For example - Pitt’s web site for their program says… “To compete for the medical school guarantee, applicants must meet the initial eligibility requirements of earning the highest grade point average available in their high school in the context of a curriculum showing the greatest academic rigor possible and earning a minimum SAT I score of 1450 (combined Critical Reading and Math) or 33 ACT.”

And this is just to get to the application phase (which is followed by an interview phase).

All of the BS/MD programs are very hard to get into. The reason is that the schools have to be confident that the accepted students would have made it thru premed courses and med school admissions if they had gone the traditionaly route.

and if you’re looking at any state programs, those tend to favor instate students.
