I am currently a freshman taking honors geometry. First semester I got 92 pretty easily. But now in the second sem I am currently at a 77 because I messed up badly on the first test (luckily I can still make this up). The unit was mainly trigonometry, such as sin, tan, and cos along with special right triangles and etc. I already signed up for alg 2 and pre calc next year (my school uses block schedule so I take alg 2 in fall and pre calc in spring) before this disaster happened, because math has generally been a strong subject of mine until now. Does geometry and trigonometry have a huge presence in pre calc and calc? I don’t want to have my gpa smashed by those classes if I take them.
Thanks for any feedback.
Trig is very important in precalc and calc.
Yes, you will learn about the unit circle and other topics that were introduced in geometry at a deeper level. Try to make your grade up quick because otherwise you will be stuck with a C and that won’t be good. Also just make sure to understand sin, cos, tan and be able to apply them and the 30 60 90 and 45 45 90 triangles in different types of problems. That is pretty much all you will need for pre-calc.
Yes - in calculus (e.g. AP calculus) you will be doing a lot of derivatives/integrals with trig functions, and many related rates problems involve geometry. Nothing too advanced, but you should at least be comfortable with trig and basic geometry before taking calculus.
