As the title states, I’m looking for advice here on these scores (well below ideal, IK), especially for someone with his eye on Carnegie Mellon and similarly competitive schools for computer science.
Context:
36 ACT composite
5 AP Chem
5 AP Calc AB
Other subjects taken: 580 Spanish reading (in freshman year lol)
Seriously?!?! A 790 is “well below ideal?” This is just totally ingenuous. They’re fine. Subject Tests are just one part of the application package. Move on and spend the time on other aspects of your application. 800’s and crappy essays will torpedo your chances more than less-than-perfect Subject Test scores.
If you are concerned about the percentile, it is important to understand that for several subjects, the percentiles are depressed because so few colleges request Subject Tests, that the one that do are the ultra selective ones. As a result, it is the high achieving kids taking the tests. No AO is sitting on the floor cross-referencing scores with percentiles.
My rising junior DS also got a 790 on math II, we are both happy.
