8,000 EFC and sooo confused. Will I get need-based aid? Can someone help me decipher this? Please help!! Thanks. MOst colleges I want to attend are 50,000/yr with room and board.

Yes, you will get need based aid. If the schools you are considering do not promise to meet 100% need, though, you may still have a gap between your need and the aid offered. You will be eligible for Stafford loans (up to 5500 as a freshman) and perhaps work study. Some schools may offer you grants - some may not. Frankly, there is no way to tell you for sure.

What you will not get is ... Pell or ACG.

About how much can I slash off of a 50,000/year school?

Technically 42000 if they meet 100% of need. Who knows for any others.

It totally depends on the schools you're applying to. If you're lucky enough to get into Harvard or one of the handful of schools that meet full need with no loans, if your Profile EFC is about the same you can expect everything over the EFC to be covered by grants and a work study job.

The majority of schools don't meet full need and tend to give more generous aid to their top candidates.

You can look at the College Board site to get a feel for percent of need met at your schools, but you won't know for sure until you get your packages.
