I'm really disappointed.

Especially because now I'm assuming I did really bad on my essays for AP. :/ How would an 8 compare to an AP essay, considering it's university level?

Em… depends on the AP’s you took. For the SAT essay you don’t really have time to plan out the essay and make an outline or anything of that sort. It’s only one question and pretty general. If you knew your stuff for the AP you should have done fine. Anyways 8 seems like an average score for the Essay on the SAT.

I believe national average is 7, but it seems 8 is the most popular score.

Oh brilliant, I forgot to list my AP–I took Language and Composition.

I mean, if I took a university-level class, shouldn’t I have scored higher?

It’s not worth freaking out.

Back in May 2007 (junior year of HS), I took the AP English Language and Composition exam. Then in June 2007, I took the SAT.

My scores?
7 on the SAT essay (lol) and a 5 on AP English.

AP English teaches you how to move beyond the silly 5-paragraph essay formula and actually produce a good piece of writing – good for the AP exam but bad for the SAT.

I retook the SAT the next fall, cranked out a space-filling, 5-paragraph essay, and got a 12.

Don’t freak out.
