Guy, please stop putting words in my mouth. I neither made these comments nor supported them in anyway- I only quoted the penn students who did. However, it does seems as though you have romanticized a penn without fault- to an extent that you believe the experiences of current students are less reliable than those of a prospective student who has not spent up to a week at Penn. But thank you for insulting my intelligence and forming an argument on the basis of technicalities of word choice, maybe it’ll give future students a glimpse of how a penn student debates.

You are failing to notice that those quotes were from a few years ago when Penn was a lot more different. Also, my cousin went to upenn and he had an amazing experience. You are also failing to notice some of the CURRENT penn students who are NOT defiling the school. for eg, legendofmax, jcoveney, legendofmax are all current students of penn.

how about stopping this fight or taking it elsewhere (who calls each other "guy" anyway?).

those quotes may be old, but their accuracy isn't diminished much. leaving aside the generalized insults to certain groups, there's a lot that isn't so glorious here.

just because we current students don't "defile" our school (that sounds pretty nasty) doesn't mean we don't recognize its numerous faults (and every school has them).

but we love it here in spite of everything.

how about letting the current students answer the questions about what it's really like here - prospective and matriculating students are free to ask, and we're happy to answer.

and it's fling so stop indirectly adding rain on the parade.

D- Penn IS an institution of the elite. If Penn isn't, then I don't know what is. The "elite" in the US is rainbow colored but certain groups are "overrepresented" - having Penn mirror the exact demographics of the country as a whole is not a realistic goal any more than having the NBA match the national ethnic composition exactly - it just doesn't work that way because talent is not evenly distributed. For example, in the Hopkins "Study of Exceptional Talent" (kids who get 700 on their SAT's before age 13) 32% are Asian and less than 1.3% are black or Hispanic (combined). They don't break it down by religion but I'll bet a lot of the white kids are Jewish.

If someone doesn't want to an attend an institution with Penn's demographics ("too" Jewish, "too" Asian, etc.) then there are lots of other places for them.

of course there are faults to every school but i hate that these people come here and say, penn vs darmouth or penn vs columbia and this thread for example: 8 reasons not to attend penn! or Upenn is only worth attending because of wharton.
I wish they would leave us alone and let us be proud of our school. I don't see us going to their sub forums and saying bad things about their school.

yeah, it's annoying, but it's a reality of the little tiny subset of college-minded individuals that come here that inter-ivy comparisons are frequent and inevitable.

it's good that you already want to be proud of penn, and by all means do so, as it's certainly worthy of pride...

but don't take it as a personal attack - notice how on the whole current students are much more chill about such things.

At least Penn alumni aren't in revolt. Dartmouth is in the process of ruining its core competencies.

There are plenty of people at Penn who are not intellectual, but no shortage of people who are. And they may be the only intellectuals who know how to party.

It's kinda ironic that the first one to contest what you just said would in all likelihood be Penn's PR department.

Oh how I love being misquoted.

Or a tinge of regret for making a post a couple of years ago?

Hmm? I get made fun of for helping a student make decisions about whether or not to attend Penn when the actual students are too lazy to do it themselves? I guess all those stuck-up, cliquey, cocky, sucky, arrogant, non-smart, cheap, penn state inferiority complex descriptions were right on target after all.

Go to a state school. At an Ivy, you're just going to feel ****ed off because most of your TAs and profs went to no-name schools and there you are, paying a ridiculous tuition so you can mooch off of their reputation. In this day and age of standardized education and electronic resources, you're going to get the same education no matter where you go to school. Wiki is the best professor out there and Google is the best TA. Save your money for professional/grad school.
