I took the October SAT last month. My scores were 800 CR, 800 Writing, and 680 Math. This was the second time I took it; the first time, my scores in CR and Writing were lower but I got the same score in math. I'm obviously happy with my CR and W scores, but I'm worried that my math score will hurt me in admissions. I'm applying to top schools (Brown, Stanford, Pomona, etc) as either a Biology major or as Undecided. Do you guys think it'll have a significant impact?
Thanks for any help :)

Bump - anyone?

Damn. If I could get strait 800s in CR and Writ, I would be sitting content with a 2400.

Did you try doing ****loads of math problems? Grubers? I can’t help but think about how close you are to a 2400.

haha damn
wow
i wish my CR was that high (thats my lowest)
but srsly!? with 800’s in the hardest sections…u cant seem to raise ur math up!? i would say math is easiest…just do a crap load of problems from barrons (and kaplan) math i would say
and take the SATs one more time?

i have the same problem
my cr was 800 on my first time
760 writing on my second time
Math?
wait for it
is in the 500s

I’ll take math for you and you take critical reading and writing for me. Deal?
On a serious note I highly recommend Gruber’s Math Guide. When reviewing your answers, whether they are right or wrong, make sure you see how they recommend to do it. This will get you into the mindset of how to properly do all types of problems.

Now… Don’t practice any grubers or barrons.
Find the old official tests (QAS) and remember the answers, since CB sucks and re-uses the old tests.
jk btw, i’m still mad.

exactly.
just pay off some shady teacher to get it.
memorize the answer key
ahaha 800.

j/k ing too. sorry.

Haha i’m right with you (obviously not with 800s) but CR and W are simple… Math is harda s hell :

For math you pretty much just have to do TONS of problems. They really are more like logical puzzles than anything else, and if you get used to how they are presented, you start recognizing patterns and they become way easier. Grubers is great for a math refresher and for attack methods, but you definitely want to use the 10 reals for the actual problem practice

if you have the time, i would advise you to retake it

1) most ivies/privates superscore so you have nothing to lose from the reading and writing sections

2) math is usually considered the easiest by most people so i would just do a ton of practice tests and just be more careful while taking the test

3) some colleges look at a CR + M composite and don’t look at writing so you should always try to raise your math

but congrats on your 800s in reading and writing. you’re ridiculously close to a 2400. if you just do more problems, you could probably get a high 2300 which is more than necessary for any universities save HYPS-MC.

haha, I have 800/800/680, but my 680 is in writing (what an annoying section). I suppose the best choice would be to practice from old tests or the blue book. I always thought the SAT featured basic math, but if you really need practice I’m sure you can find it and hit that 800.

wow *** dude an 800 in writing? Jesus you could have gotten a 2400! 680 is the “stupid mistake” range. Take what you got wrong, and make tips to not make the same kind of mistake.
