My S got an 800 in both of these on his SAT, along with a 740 in writing. I have seen statistics on the number of students getting an 800 on math and the number getting an 800 on critical reading. I have also seen statistics on the number who get 2400. Are there any statistics on the number of test takers who get 800 on both math and critical reading?

for what purpose?

Don’t know, but shout it from the fb rooftop? I’m just kidding --that is really awesome and I would bet he’s within a range even lower than the top 1%. Since NMF are roughly scoring the equiv. to a 2200 on the SAT and they’re within the top 1% nationwide, then a perfect score would have to be lower than that number. So it’s really an amazing score no doubt.

Since you have both figures, you might get a fair approximation from multiplying the percentage getting an 800 on math by the percentage getting an 800 on critical reading.

This would vastly overestimate the rarity, since there is a strong positive intercorrelation.

Thank you silverturtle. This is exactly what I wanted to know. It seems like a pretty small cohort, although i guess about a thousand of the 1305 drop out on the road to 2400.

It does seem to be pretty small, but you knew that already.
