I got an 800 on my writing section of my SAT but didn't do very well in the other areas (640 math and 690 reading = 1330/1600....... or 2130 out of 2400). Most schools I am looking at say they don't consider the writing.... do you think this means they won't look at my perfect score at ALL? I feel like it should count for something........!

I think I am re-taking them again in Oct, even though I probably won't get 800 again, because my math and reading need to go up because those count more. Will the colleges really not even consider my 800 in the slightest?!

Thanks!

the 800 looks good (as does a 2130)

your 1330, while relatively good, is a bit weak.

Well, I don’t think it’ll count as much as an 800 in other sections.

But unless the college explicitly states they throw out the writing score (MIT and some others come to mind)… it will be looked on favorably. Just realize that 2130 probably won’t carry as much weight as a more balanced 2130.

But I’m a little behind times. I might be wrong, who knows.

“Most schools I am looking at say they don’t consider the writing” - Laughing guess you need to work on your CR - Lots of schools consider the writing section but if the schools “your looking at” say they don’t then they mostlikely don’t consider the writing section.

Your plan to study for the other two sections is a good one. You, (of course) may want to look at schools that consider the writing section. BUT lets not loose the fact that you had “a perfect score” on any section — Congratulations —

Bumping this, cause it’s of interest to me.

Three 710’s looks better than the OP’s current situation.

ncmentor, I don’t understand what you’re saying about how I have to work on my CR, but if that was some kind of a joke, you need to work on your writing, because you don’t know the difference between “your” and “you’re”

^ are you really trying to fix somebody’s grammar on here… (sorry if that sentence was poorly phrased)
anyways. this thread is a month old but still, an 800 W is impressive, it’s not like they will totally ignore it or be like, “wow he got an 800 W, who cares?”, yaknow?
I think the CR+M score takes a lot more weight than the W score, but throwing it away is just silly. Before 2005 (or whenever they moved to the 3-part test format), schools were still asking for the SAT II Writing test…
