How would you guys reccommend I study to get an 800 on math? The first time I took it I got a 700 by missing 3 or 4 questions, and I want to guarantee and 800...and test taking tips? advice? secret study guides or special books?

Practice the types of questions you are getting wrong.

well, are getting questions wrong because you don't know concepts or are they careless? If it is the former i'd recommend grubers because they have a good math questions. If it is the latter read answers carefully and the questions as well.

When I first started the practices I would score about a 700. I just reviewed the concepts that I already knew, and studied much more deeply the ones that I would consistently get wrong. I got a few 800's on practices, but I missed two or so on the SAT and got a 760. Also, watch for tricks and stupid mistakes, always read the question after you answer it.

If you have any time left over, you were going way too fast. To avoid careless mistakes, get into the mode of feeling paranoid about every answer. You're obviously not going to go back over every single question, so it's best that you get it correct on your first time around.

1 wrong answer is 10 - 20 points off. That's too valuable to waste on a careless mistake.

I got an 800 and spent every second of the time allowed. I didn't actually "go back" at the end and check my answers, but as I went I made sure that I wasn't making any stupid mistakes or anything like that. I didn't guess on any of them either, so obviously that helped.

Damn, I'd really like to get a perfect score on this section also. You can't miss even one or you lost it? I missed like 2 on the CR section and I still got an 800. I guess they just try to make this one tougher...

If you have any time left over, you were going way too fast.

That's not always true. I got an 800 w/ 5-7 min left after each section.....

I got an 800, and I finish the math sections very quickly. For the 25 minute sections, I can finish the whole section in 10 minutes. Then I usually spend the next ten minutes reviewing and checking my work. Then...I don't really have much to do for the last five minutes because I'm usually pretty sure I got them all right...

Thats what I do on practices :P, but I always seem to go slower on the real test... Not sure why, but I get really anxious.

the math section is presumably the easiest, right?

You know, I thought I was good at math because I took precalculus as a sophomore and got an A...I only got a 600 on the SAT math section - now I'm inclinced to think that I'm all effort and no natural skills.

Powerbomb, did you review the math concepts before you took it? I think when you get up there to precalculus and above, you tend to forget the most basic things that you consider easy.
