do u have extra time at the end? If you do just work through everything slowly and don't rush.

Yea, going back to check is not very effective because the chance of catching a mistake isnt too great. Its best to slow down and not make the mistake in the first place.

What score are you averaging right now?

I work as slowly as I can. But after reading RR, I know my mistakes come from misreading the questions. Although I try to read the question thoroughly, I still miss some points. I think that's why I make avoidable mistakes.
If you wanna get 800, I think most questions are solved easily. The ones that trap me are combination/permutaion, counting or those that numbers with hard exponents.

Circle important words in the question that could be misunderstood or ignored. In other words, identify the traps while reading a question (that way you'll be sure that you're answering the right question).

It might help to know what kinds of careless mistakes you're making.

yeah I will fix.
and one more thing i've learned is always write down what i think. that definitely helps :)

read the question, answer it, re read the question.

^ Is absolutely correct

Go to Vietnam and study as a high school student. I guarantee you will have a 800 on SAT Math :D

always check if your answer makes sense.

self-verbalize (sp?)

As in, read it "out loud" to yourself. Remember we can usually read a lot faster than we can associate a voice to it. When you are reading this, your brain knows what I am writing a lot quicker than you would be able to read this to yourself. But on the SAT, little words that your quick brain might miss makes all the difference. Ex: not, except, besides, etc.

Actually, thanks a million. I just remembered my own tip to myself to not make careless mistakes...lol I think I might have gotten myself an 800. It helped me a lot on Math II last year, so I hope it does good to you too.

Good luck.

I have 3 practice tests in math i have got 53,54,52 as the raw scores which is somewhat 800 scaled.

I have studied the CBSE Indian board so dont have a problem with math. For functions graphing calculator will always do the trick.

no way dude. I agree Asian countries teach math very fiercely but only outstanding students can realize the trick in questions. Good students- they still get 1-2 wrong.

Always re-read the question so you've read it 2-3 times.

Work quickly, but be careful and conscientious of what exactly you are doing. Double check your answer if possible.

I agree that going back and checking is not effective because unless you resolve every question, you will generally miss your errors.

Of course you can re-do all your calculations, which is what I occasionally do if I have the usual 5-10 minutes of free time left at the end of a section.

I consistently get 800's in practice tests.

well i just make sure that i solve for what they ask me to solve for because that's where most of my dumb mistakes come from. for example i might solve for x, but the problem asks me to solve for x+5
thats gotten me before plenty of times

Try to concentrate and also try to keep how you did on the essay/previous section out of your head. I usually finish real fast, even though i have tried slowing down, it has never helped. With the time (anywhere between 5-10mins) i can almost certainly check for these 'traps' and redo the questions i am unsure of
