86 out of 210 in my grade applied to UMich

How much people do you think UMich would take from my school? UMich has always received 20+ applicants from my school and accepted around 12 of them, but never 86!!! How many people would you expect UMich to accept?

^^^^^^12^^^^^^

Are you in-state?

probably 20

It does not matter how many students from a high school apply, what matters is their individual academic and extra-curricular strengths. If you attend one of the top high schools in the nation (like Deerfield Academy or St Paul), conceivably, most of those 86 students could be admitted. On the other hand if you attend a typical high school with an ordinary student body, it is safe to assume that many of those additional applicants are not very strong and therefore, as rjkofnovi suggests, Michigan may still admit only 15-20 of those applicants.

80-some kids from last year’s senior class are currently going to UMich. I think around 100-110 got accepted out of a class of around 350. I live in Ann Arbor though, so maybe that changes things.

Huron and Pioneer have a special relationship with the university. Part of that has to do with the fact that a large percentage of the students are children of faculty and staff, part of it has to do with the fact that being so close to the university guarantees a high yield and finally, part of it has to do with the fact that they are very good and graduate dozens of worthy candidates each year.

@JessEllen, no I am not in state. I come from a super-competitive public school in NY.

if your school truly is super-competitive, then they may admit many, but Im sure not all of you will be admitted. Although it barely matters at all how many applied, they will view you all individually. Most likely not all 86 are going to be the type of candidates Michigan would accept.

Michigan admitted –
60 from Raffles Junior College (Singapore) in 2008
58 from Horace Greeley High School (Chappaque, NY) in 2009
49 from Stuyvesant High in NYC in 2009
