I was just wondering what's the 8th grade's day/boarding student ratio and male/female ratio? Does anyone has a rough estimate of the acceptance rate for 8th grade at Groton? Also, will the admission standard pretty much aline the standard for 9th grade?

Bump…

bump…

My sister’s in 6th grade now and is looking to apply to Groton for 8th grade next year, so I’m interested :)

I heard that Groton gets more competitive day students than competitive boarding students for 8th grade admission. Anyone can confirm this?

I don’t know about the difference in boarding/day, but keep in mind that faculty kids are considered day students. As for the boarding pool, I know of two current Exonians who were both waitlisted for 8th and 9th grade.

Groton is one of the most selective schools out there any way you slice it. Good luck!

Agree with Neato. 8th grade day is extremely hard if you are not teacher’s kid or sibling of a groton student.

Thank you for the responses. But keep in mind that 8th grade barding student’s admission draws its applicants from all over the world! Any Groton students here?

8th grade in Groton is just 25 students or so. Day vs. boarding in 8th grade is almost 2;8 or 1;9. So, entering as an 8th grade day student is almost impossible. They probably give 1 or 2 boys and 1 or 2 girls as 8th gr. day admission. Groton is such a small-size school. That’s why they are so selective, especially for day students.

As a current Groton School 2nd Former (8th Grader) I’ll try to answer your questions to the best of my ability.

This year there are 27 eighth graders, 15 boys and 12 girls. We have 7 day students, 6 of which have a sibling at the school or are faculty kids. Out of all the second formers there are only 14 who have had no ancestor legacies, siblings, or parents at the school. I’d say that the admission percentage is about 20%, give or take a few percents.

Good luck to all!

Is repeating common for Groton 8th grader? I assume the 8th grade boarding competition is tougher for boys than for girls?

I’m not a repeat, but repeating is pretty common. 11 students are repeats in the eight grade.

Wow, that’s 40%! Just wondering how many states and countries do these 27 kids from?

We come from 12 different states and countries. Most come from Massachusetts or New York.
