Just so that we remember a really important day in American history, check out this amazing footage.
http://www.cnn.com/video/us/2001/09/12/first.plane.hits.gp.med.html

By the way, turn your speakers up loud so you can hear the plane.

Why did you move this?

I didn't have the volume on, but just watching that practically tore my heart into a million shreds.

Ugh. You have to admit, that is really amazing for it to be captured at the exact second.

KissMeKate, I feel the same. Sometimes, I think Americans are making too much of a deal and dwelling too much on it, but then I watch the clips...

:(

I think anyone still dwelling on it is making a bigger deal out of it now, so many years later, than they should be. Iraqis have lost 30,000 (a conservative estimate) during the current war, not to mention so many others during Saddam's reign. Palestine and Israel have had many thousands more deaths. So have many others in the entire middle east. But they really don't have a choice except to move forward, and I think it's time any Americans who haven't should do the same.

What, you think that an Israeli, shown a clip of the assassination of late Prime Minister Rabin (may he rest in peace), would be unmoved? I find your comment misguided, if not insensitive.

2000 innocents died in one day. It was not an accident. They were not enemy combatants or civilian casualties. They were victims of a deliberate plan. I normally avoid terms like good and evil. Killing innocents for the sake of killing innocents is evil. It would be near impossible to exaggerate the emotional impact of 9/11.

We should always be moving on... but we should never forget the past and those we've lost.

I agree that 9/11 is a big deal and a sad footnote in our history, but I feel the tragedy itself has been used, warped and perverted by people with 'certain' political agendas. That such an event could be used in such a way (to cause yet more 'evil'!) frankly disgusts me.

nick3333, don't you dare say that the tragedy "has been used, warped and perverted by people with 'certain' political agendas"
What you said really disgusts me...

I would actually agree that it has been used, warped and perverted for political motivations (and that applies to both sides of the political spectrum - national security and Iraq became the only issues in the last presidential election), but I would also add that it's a lot more than a "sad footnote".

You disagree? Why is it that often times, any time someone questions the Iraq war, the answer is "9/11"? Why aren't we doing more to stop terror? "9/11" Isn't it time to give some of the troops, who've been through over 5 tours of duty, a rest? "9/11"
The fact is, attacking Afghanistan and Iraq has increased the number of terrorists in that area and in the world. There's a chance 9/11 could have been prevented if we had done something about them earlier, but it could DEFINITELY have been stopped if we'd simply upped our own national and airport security. That was the real cause of 9/11, and our president did not target that weak point... instead he went overseas with bombs, which has still not improved our weak national security.
Therefore, 9/11 as an excuse or reason for so many things that have happened since that day is not valid, and it has been warped by many as a reason for the wars/casualties/etc. It is definitely more than a "sad footnote", no doubt, but there is no denying that some have used it for political agendas.

I totally agree with nick3333, although this was a terrible tragedy, it has been exploited by the fears of many.
