This course I am going to take, Comp Lit R1A, has 9 books, novelettes, plays required in the Cal Store. Does this mean we are going to read ALL 9 books in ONE semester?!

Most likely!

:)

Welcome to college.

Indeed! .

aren't novelettes usually shorter than novels?

^ Yes, they are.

You will "read" them, meaning read the first 2-3 then briskly scan the rest. At least, that's what I'd imagine college students to do. Haven't taken a writing course yet myself.

Um, I believe they are called novellas, not novelettes. And, yeah, they're usually, by definition, less than 100 pages. Too long to be short stories, too short to be novels. (former English major here, couldn't resist...:) ) If you read one a week, you'll be fine.

Woa, how do you know which, and how many, books you need to get for each class? Are we suppose to purchase those before class starts? i haven't even thought about that.

One of mom's friends wound up having to read 15 books a month. I don't know what exactly her major was but I hope to avoid it with a ten-foot pole. That isn't to say I don't like reading. But when you make it worth points, I start to hate what I'm reading. Most unfortunate.

People usually buy their books before classes start. Some wait a little while. Some professors have listed the books, some havent.

By "read" I think we mean SKIM..........the sparknotes summaries.

Meh. You will soon learn which classes you have read for and which you don't. People can pull A-s without reading a single thing in some courses, not that this is a good idea for freshmen.

As a freshman, you should read everything you are assigned and then get a feel for it.

Sparknotes belongs to desperate high school students. You are in crap shape if you need to use sparknotes in college.

And a lot of books, from my experience, are not on sparknotes.

Unlimited..you are right. There are much better sites than Sparknotes.

Haha. I didn't mean it that way.

Maybe history, English, or comp lit. Bad times.
