9 Interview - <30 minutes

So I had my interview- about 30 minutes ago. So I thought I'd rush home and write about it on CC... lol

Well it was in the state capital- and there was a fire drill at first. So when I finally got in- I met the secretary and went up to the alum's office. He was really young- still 20's. Overall it went just amazing- we shared the same interests and activities and sport, it was almost creepy. It went so well he offered me an internship afterward!

He also was in a major secret society so we talked about that.. which was fun. Fairly sure the least I could have gotten was an 8. :D

BUT: it only lasted 20-30 minutes. Is that OK?

^ Damn you if that's true. (Not really, way to have a baller interview)

It was at his office? It probably would've been longer somewhere else/sans a fire drill.

Yeah- the fire drill was before. The secretary was trying to call him down and had to practically YELL into the phone. He was a really young, jolly guy. He was really friendly and honestly it was probably unfair of me to get such an easy interview haha

Oh- and whoever said google'ing your interviewer is bad... that can go either way. I have googled both my H and Y interviewers- and it helped a ton. Finding out where they went to school for graduate or undergrad, and even some work information proves to be a valuable ace in the hole.

^ Agreed.

Also....Looks like we're the only ones that bothered to respond. Hehehe.

Probably- It's ok. I think the Yale forums would be pretty boring without us anyways....

You'd think with over 50 views at least someone would make a comment. Or maybe you're just jealous. ;P

whatever :P

....congrats.

I think my 2.5 hour interview outclassed this one ;P

Meh... sad part is: The interview actually means nothing at all. The rec and score they give you is what matters.

AAAAAAAve Maaaaaariaaaaaa gratia plena, ave, ave dominus, dominus tecum.

the interview gives you the rec and the score. SO the interview is relevant
Besides, it is a way to verify your "voice in the essay," and a few things that papers and numbers alone cannot tell. Does it make sense or am I thinking too much

that's awesome!

did he happen to mention what society?

i can't imagine he'd go in depth, given they're all so secret, ahah.

Scroll and Key

^Shucks, not the biggie, hehehe.

I disagree with the interview verifying the 'voice' someone writes with. My abilities in off the cuff speech under pressure (save for when I'm angry) manifest themselves in a rather feeble way and do not at all reflect the way I write.

Likewise.

As far as the societies go... apparently Skull and Bones isn't as big anymore since they don't have the same resources. Check out wikipedia :D

Overweening prawn-salad.

Mal77: when you mention a "9" or an "8" I assume you're referring to the rating the interviewer gives you right? Certainly it's an opinion thing by the interviewer but in the 19+ years I've interviewed, I've given out only two eights.

Don't bank on the fact that you got a "9" just because you connected well with the alum. I'm glad you and he had a great time but don't put too much focus on how well you think you did in his eyes. Only disappointment can follow, IMHO.

Best of luck to you nonetheless.

T26E4: Words of wisdom. Of course I have no idea on the exact score I received, all I can say is I think it went exceptional. As for the scoring, I'm sure there must be some grade inflation amongst certain interviewers? I.E. a relatively new interviewer might give out higher scores as he/she has not had a large enough sample?

" I think it went exceptionally [well]" :)

Also, don't boast so much, it's a game of luck!
