Hi All ,
This Thread is inspired by "Biggest Improvment Sat Stories"
Since most people needs help in specific sections, thus we should have a different Thread for each Section!

this is for the Math Section ONLY~

Follow Something like this

Time taken first time - score (Example: PSAT Sophmore- 570)
Time taken second time - score (Example: Jan SAT Junior-640)
(for the time taken. try to use things relative to the year of high school so people have and idea of how far into school you are)

Please include as detailed as possible on how you studied, which part did you improve the most, and what you thought was helpful. More info, more appreciated!

if all you post is numbers, it's not really helpful to people!!

March SAT Junior - 650
June SAT junior- 780
Basically, I just worked through all of the math problems in the blue book and the CB online course. On average, I did one section every two days. For the ones I got wrong, I carefully analysed why I got it wrong and wrote down the lesson I learned from that problem into a notebook. Also, I did a few sections without a calculator and that really sharpened my calculating abilities. Just try doing some questions without a calculator and you'll be surprised at how much your brain goes into a math mode.

SAT January Junior 490
SAT June Junior 590
I used PR and Blue Book to practice as much as possible and learned the patterns. I will use Barron's math workbook to practice more this summer. I hope to have 650-700 by the October test date.

I think people are going to appreciate your comments!!
don't refuse to post because you think you have a bad score, there are people out there that are in the same situation as you.

the point of these thread is so that people from all levels can get help and tips on how other improved!!

and good luck everyone! ( i really need to work on my CR and writing )

SAT I princeton review practice test (december of soph year) - 640
SAT I March 2007 (soph) - 710

I think practicing/learning mathematics in school and just becoming familiar with the test questions is quite valuable. The math itself isn't particularly hard, but training your mind to see exactly how the 6th-9th grade math applies to certain problems will improve one's score immensely -- and that's where practice tests come in handy.

ambryllien:
The point of the post is to post your stories, your scores are only used to see how long of a way your journey have come. please don't ONLY post your scores because thats not really helping anyone and you are better off posting a "Chance me" thread if you really want people to see your score.

If you have no story at all, then don't post your scores.

branderson925:
depends on what level math you are in. sometimes you simply have not learn what is needed to know --take it after you learned what is needed (algebra 2?)
other times it might be careless mistakes-- do LOTS and LOTS of practice, don't have to be SAT, your math book works too, helps with speed and making less careless mistakes
this helped me a lot of SAT 2 math and also my normal math class. in my sophomore year when i took calc bc, many of the test problems were multi-stepped like chain rule and stuff so i alway make random mistakes between the steps(getting B and a few C on the tests), then in that winter break, i did about 15 MathIIC practice test and got me a 800 a much higher A in calc the second semester (got all very high A on the tests)

and for some, they aren't sure how to approach some of the problems-- get a friend that is good at math to explain how they approach the problems, you can PM me if you have any math questions(any hs, ap , SAT, most contest math level i can answer)

review some of the formulas and algebra also helps

I am taking Calc BC and I am confident I got at least a 4 on this May's AB AP test, so it isn't my level. Just confusing algebra with weird ways to solve things I guess screwed me over. IDK. But good advice.

Second time: SAT March 2007 - 590 (I had used the Princeton Review "Cracking the SAT," but the math on the actual test struck me as way different than what I'd studied)

Third time: SAT June 2007 - 740 Yeah. Huge leap. And I kind of only studied for two weeks. Ladies and gentlemen, all it takes is two things: THE.BLUE.BOOK. and a little confidence. Oh and being fluent with your calculator. I did a huge amount of math practice tests in the blue book and gradually got less and less wrong.

yes! i totally agree with the calculator!!!
graphing calculator and save you TONS of time and brain power if you are used to using it, but if you are not.. its not a good idea.

TI-89 have solving functions and a LOT of other things , but i think it helps more with SAT 2 than 1. however, with the long list of history, you can also go back and check your work

Sorry 'bout that... typical me, I read the thread title and not much else. The point wasn't that I wanted people to see the scores (nor is that the reasoning behind chance threads, I think... when I post them, I actually want to be chanced, not brag...); I just saw "score improvement" and thought "well... I improved, I guess." Really sorry...

Um... rather than posting thrice, I'm just gonna say that this applies to all 3 of my scores. shuffles away shamefully

junior march 2007 - 620
junior may 2007 - 720

at first i used the blue book then i used barrons 2400. it had harder problems and helped me a lot. I also got lucky, alot of the problems were easy

Junior PSAT: 600
REAL SAT SCORE": 740
I used the barrons math workbook, i did the diagnostic test to see where i was at, then barrons has math lession for specfic thing like 30 60 90 triangle and it has about 30 specific sessions divided in section 2-1 , 2-2 , 3-1 etc, i did one of those a day and answed questions about that lesson. At end of thirty days, i did one practice test from blue book bc i don't like barrons problems that much bc they r harder then actual problems so you will never have to face on of those on the sat.
