A 3.4 GPA okay for top tier medical school?

Let's say hypothetically that a Princeton premed makes a 3.4 cGPA and maybe a 3.3 sGPA but has a great deal of extracurricular activities and does relatively well on the MCAT. Does this student still have a shot at getting into top medical schools like Duke or Harvard? Especially taking into account that the student comes from Princeton?

If anyone knows the percentage of students that gets into top medical schools from Princeton, please let me know!

Unless you’re an URM, virtually zero chance a 3.4 will get you into Harvard or Duke med school. It will be very, very difficult to get into any US allopathic medical school unless your MCAT is 33+. Sometimes, a state medical school will have a lower standard for in-state applicants. Extra curriculur activities are not important in med school admissions. Where you go to school is also not important. MIT physics is not considered more impressive than state school sociology.

I agree with the above post. If you have a 3.7 GPA, you’re in the bottom 10% at HMS.

Although I would argue extracurriculars are extremely important at top tier medical schools. Almost everyone who applies has a strong GPA and MCAT score, the EC’s really distinguish the best when you have thousands of 3.8+ 37+ applicants and you can only accept about 200.
