A Better Chance Parent & Scholars

Hello All:

This is a very overwhelming task, choosing the right school for your child, they are all wonderful comparatively speaking. We have received all of our referrals and have visited a few already. Plan to visit some that we hadn't considered before now. Any insight you can share would be awesome. We would like to hear from present and past families. Tips, advice, and details about particular schools and experiences would be helpful.

We thank you in advance:-)

Welcome to the forum!

I think it will help focus responses if you can share the schools on your referral list. In general, most parents are superfans of the school where their child goes/went and will be able to share the pros (and hopefully some cons).

It might be good if you could describe your child’s strengths, weaknesses, interest, and hopes (your hopes for him/her, as well!)…as the notion of “fit” comes into play. For example, if he/she has a fear of horses, then perhaps Thacher might not be a good match.

Here’s a link to our experience last year (non-ABC family, starting with a list of 15 schools given to us by an acquaintance who works in the boarding school world).

BTW, are you applying for next fall or the following year? I ask because the application deadline for many schools is in a few days…

I read your link, thank you SevenDad…awesome feedback. We are looking at Middlesex, Lawrenceville, Episcopal (VA), Brooks, Blair, McCallie, St. George, Peddie, and Taft.

My son is extroverted, competitive, plays multiple sports, he’s an explorer… Raw talent for sciences - wants to be an engineer. “A” student, captain of bball team, member of school leadership, interested in robotics, boarding school is child’s idea.

Challenges in writing and prioritizing tasks. Learns best by doing and/or engaging in learning environment.

Any feedback would be wonderful. Thx Guys.
