ChoatieMom - Private schools do receive federal funding in the form of income tax exemption. Relevant case law might be found in the U.S. Supreme Court ruling of Bob Jones University v. United States

My post was not referring to you. Sorry.

My final post.

They do. In greater numbers than AA and Hispanic kids. What about that has not been clear in our responses? Even in college interviews ALL of the students I’ve seen over the past years who were Questbridge applicants were also white.

You can’t take stats in isolation and come to a conclusion about economic/racial makeup. As many parents on the board can attest - the original OP was not the “odd girl” out because she didn’t qualify for ABC. Schools are primarily funding students from their own resources and the lion share of scholarships are going to lower income and middle class white families for the very goal of achieving economic diversity. This is a NON issue.

As for full pays: SOMEONE has to foot the bill so the schools can give scholarships to those who can’t. Boarding schools don’t run on wishes and dreams and thin air, they have to pay salaries, heat buildings, feed students, buy resources, etc.

The key is not criticizing schools who are doing a pretty good job of balancing - but to find the hidden programs and make the information easier to find for those who need the extra financial help.

For the record, I’ve spoken to quite a few parents on this board who “should have been” eligible for programs like ABC and were told they weren’t. Their kids are in BS and doing just fine - if not better - than the “program students” without the stereotype of those programs hanging over their heads. Hence my advice to the 14-year old poster to stop whining and count her blessings that she even knows she has options.

DAndrew hasn’t yet posted his concluding remarks!

Are you serious with that, Parlabane? It doesn’t matter whether you were kidding or not that was a seriously racist comment. No one cares if you feel that “black people” should still be enslaved. Even if you do feel that was others may take serious offense to that. Like you have seriously got to be kidding? Slavery is done and over with and if you feel like you should reinstate it well crawl back under a rock. I mean, I don’t mean to be rude but that comment was completely uncalled for. I’m not saying that a better chance is racist or not because it does do some racial profiling but mainly because a lot of people especially people of color need that extra boost because sometimes it is/was really hard for African Americans.
