a better chance?

Basically I have learned about this program from here, but not really enough and was having trouble searching it.

Does anyone have any experience with this program, and does it really help? And yes I have been to the website, and my child does qualify to apply with them. Just really wondering about personal experience or other knowledge.

I have no direct experience with the program, but I will point out that the current governor of Massachusetts, Deval Patrick, came through the ABC program. He attended Milton Academy, coming from a poor, single parent family on Chicago’s South Side. (You might get results searching “ABC.”)

There were some girls at my (public) high school through ABC. They were boarders - lived in a small house on the edge of a college in our suburban town. They got lots of support, and the few I am friendly with today thought it was a great experience. If you go to their website http://www.abetterchance.org/</a> you can see the public and private schools where they send kids.

ABC is a great help with streamlining and managing the application process. It will provide your student with test prep and fee waivers. More importantly, your child will complete a single ABC application that will then be distributed to several appropriate schools interested in enrolling students like yours. Though ABC itself does not provide aid, the organization will help you deal with the FA paperwork and teach you what to expect. ABC can also help you learn about lots of boarding and day schools that you might not otherwise have discovered.

We just completed the ABC process and my son is a new Scholar for 2013-2014 school year. They have made significant changes to the application process for the 2014-15 school year that should really help better manage the process of paperwork/test prep and interviews. Two thing that we experienced and should be noted - you will have very little input in what schools your child will be referred to. If you have your heart set on a particular school, for whatever reason, you may be disappointed. This program works best for those who are flexible. What I find invaluable about the program is that my son is now building his own network of friends that are also in the program and are sharing common experience.
