Hey guys, I was wondering if any of you could answer a few questions I have on Summer Admissions vs Fall.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of applying to Summer admission ?

Is it possible to receive financial aid for both the Summer and Fall terms?

Is it true that all students in College have to take one term of Summer schooling ?

Not sure what you are talking about here - almost all 4 year schools here start in the Fall, although some will allow a second semester start date in January- usually not desirable since the majority of students will have already arrived and formed relationships. There is no summer term unless you are already enrolled as a student during the regular school year and want to take additional classes. Most people go to school from August/Sept through May/June and then work/intern over the summers.

If you’re talking about a school like PSU that offers a special summer session for freshmen, the advantage is that if you’re a borderline applicant, you may be admitted for summer even if you don’t quite make it for fall.

This kind of summer session starts you off with a smaller group of students and can be a nice way to get acclimated to the college experience.

I don’t know how it works with FA, though.

And if you get in for fall admission, no college requires you to take a summer term - none I’ve heard of, anyway.

It depends on the college. At some schools, summer term is easier to get into than fall term. For example, USF puts its lower caliber students in summer and stronger admits into fall.

Regarding the requirement of a summer term, that also depends on the college. UF, for example requires students to complete at least one semester in the summer at some point in their 4 years of undergraduate study.

It’s easier to get in if you’re starting in the summer because colleges don’t have to report your SAT scores and GPA. So generally people that look better on paper get admitted in the fall so that the school can elevate the statistics for the class.
