A bit confused

Hello,
I am going to be a junior and have gone through a variety of things to check my likes and dislikes throughout college. I really want to find a career that falls under my current interests/ specialties, but would also like to have a stable job which would allow a moderate comfort level.

Started out in engineering coming out of high school with very high grades in science/ math. Never was something I enjoyed, and while I did excel in the engineering courses, I discovered it was not for me.

I have always loved writing, and looked into journalism but feel that writing was something I enjoyed creatively, for example did not enjoy working for the paper but did love my introduction to fiction writing class.

I am on track really to graduate on time (or early) under a major that would fall under the Arts and Sciences category it seems, and I plan on going straight into graduate school (would like a PhD...MD has always been a lurking thought).

So, my current major is Psychology and minor in English....I often feel embarrassed telling people this because they give me a look like "what the hell." Are there job options for a man in this country who receives his PhD in psychology? Or should I just bite the bullet and find a new, less satisfying major.

Psychology is an area that I have a high interest in, while some of the lectures of monotonous I find interest in the area of psychology outside of the classroom which is something I had only ever done with literature, and even then it was scarce. My greatest fear is that I will go through all of the school to find that I can not get a job that one would expect a recipient of a PhD to have. Not trying to sound conceited or knowledgeable. I am extremely confused.

And if psychology would be good, what types of jobs are there. I have done searches and spoken with people but I normally just hear about research or psychologist. I think being a professor would be amazing, but are they in high-demand and if so what types of jobs/ salary/ benefits do they receive? I have been doing a bit of research with my university, both projects have been related to cancer. One was psychological and one is more...uhh...lab based I guess is the best way to put it. Wow...long post.

But yes, any help would be great.

If you’re interested in writing and good at Math and Science perhaps a job doing Technical writing?

Look into industrial design. It’s sort of engineering-related, but more focused on art (and also psychology) of the end user, as opposed to the nuts and bolts.
