A Bit of Help with the SAT Subject Tests?

I'm awfully confused as to when you can take the SAT Subject tests. Collgeboard says to take it when you've completed the course, which makes sense. I am planning on taking the Biology test, and I completed Biology in my sophomore year. Could a sophomore and freshmen take the SAT Subject tests? If so, I really want to beat myself up for missing the opportunity.

Also, can you retake the test? Will college see all the scores, or can you choose to send your highest score? If you take different subjects, can you choose which test to send?

Lastly, do you think an honor course of the subject can prepare you for the test, or is the Subject test more of an AP level? Is there any website with free practice tests? I went online at Collegeboard but they only had sample questions.

I'm sorry for so many questions, but I would appreciate if anyone can help with this.

yes you can retake the test. with this new score choice policy you have the option to send any score you want exclusively. some schools will require you to send in ALL your scores so in some cases certain schools will see all of your scores. still, they will probably only consider the highest. still, don't retake a 790 to get the 800, those scores are the same.

well let me speak on my own behalf. many people will tell you that an honors course is good enough to get you through the subject test. coming from NY where we are taught on the regents curriculum, i would NEVER have gotten a 790 on the chem subject test if it weren't for AP Chem... if i had taken it after regents chem i would most likely have gotten a 500 or so. for the chem test, it is basically the AP on a very very basic level, so i'm assuming that most other tests are the same way. i'm sure some honors courses are good enough to get you a good score, not at my school though. sparknotes has some practice tests for free. buy a barrons or princeton review though...

good luck=)

Thank you so much. They really need to give out more information on the Subject Tests. Had I known that I could have taken it any year, I would have taken the Biology test right after I was done with the course. I guess I have a lot of studying for Biology. I've only taken the honor course and won't be taking AP till senior year, and by then I should be done with the subject test.
