I'm A Tenth Grader Considering Taking The Chemistry Subject Test In May

So right now I am taking Chemistry as well as Biology. I'm doing well in Chemistry with a solid A, and I didn't do so well in Biology and got an A-, I'm sure you all needed to know that! xD
Anyways, I am really considering taking the Chemistry SAT Subject test in May. The deadline is more than a month away, but I want to be certain if I want to take it or not. Right now, I'm about 90% sure I'll take it and 10% of me wants to wait. I have heard from many people on this site that you don't have to take the AP in order to take the Subject Test, but what do you think about that?
The truth is, I am planning to take AP Biology and AP Chemistry next year. But I don't want to wait till the end of Junior year to take the SAT subject test in Chemistry for the first time, you know?
I am planning to study really hard for this Chemistry Subject Test if I take it this year. I enjoy Chemistry. I think I should give it a try, but would that be risky?
Your thoughts please. Thank you in advance! :]

If you're taking AP chem and AP bio next year, just take the subject tests next year. There's no reason to take the tests this year just because you want to allot more time to re-take if you don't do well. If you take them this year, you'll have to self-study a good amount of material you would just learn in class next year.

And if you're worried about not having enough time next year, then start studying for other things like the SATs right now since you don't really learn anything in school that improves your ability to score well on the SATs

Yeah. Take the SAT this year (study up for May or June session).

Since you have a score choice now, it won't hurt if you take it now...
But I agree with Latency

People say that taking the AP just adds unnecessary information.. And many sites and official books say you can take subject tests after one year of a college preparatory course. But I really think taking the SAT Subject test Chemistry this year won't hurt, or would it?

Yeah they are designed so the average person can score a mediocre score after one course. If you want the 800, you'll have to study a fair amount, which isn't actually too bad so go ahead and take it this year if you want to.

AP does not just adds unnecessary information. AP helps you understand the concept better so it's easier to score high on the SAT chem.

It sounds like you are really set on taking the test in May. If you really want to do it, and you are willing to put in the time to study for it, then I say you should go for it. Taking the test after the AP course/exam does make sense, but its possible to self-study for it and score well. Even if you don't get the score you want this time around, you'll be able to take it again later and you will have a head-start on some of the concepts that you'll see in AP chem.

Be careful with score choice! A few colleges require College Board to automatically send all scores.

honestly dont waste your time. you should just take it after your AP course. unless ure confident ALL the concepts tested you already know. like for me, i was sure i wasn't gna do AP math so i did the SAT II math self-prepped. you hsould spend the time saved on studying for something else.

from reading around these forums people who take ap chem always seem to very well on the subject test. I would wait until next year once you've covered all of the test material and had older concepts continually reinforced. Also, in preparing for the one test, you'll more or less be prepping for the other, so perhaps you should just wait for next year?

I took SAT Biology-M freshman year while taking Regents Living Environment and got a 750. I took SAT Chemistry last year while taking Regents Chemistry and got a 780.

I think you should be able to do well if you take it this year, but if you're taking the AP classes next year, why not just hold it off and strive for an 800?
