So anyway I know the title is really religious bc well I am very religious but i digress. So I was reading through the parents forum and stubbled across posts from a parent worrying about the high cost of college and how almost prohibitively expensive colleges are. Well it just really reminded me how absolutely blessed I am to recieve a scholarship to another university and that even if I get rejected from Yale (my top choice) I still have an amazing college to attend.

This is kind of a pontification but i think it is something that we should all think about as we await our decision from yale. Surely most of us will be rejected but at least we get to attend A university, something that most people in the world will never know. So I think we should all just reflect on how ABSOLUTELY blessed we are that we even have the opportunity to attend Yale or any other university, and that this is more important than any decision we recieve on the 31st.

My husband is a pastor, so yeah, I appreciate your viewpoint. :)

Last spring our daughter was awarded a QuestBridge college prep award to visit Yale. At this conference, one of the most impressive things to me was when the founder of QB talked with the students and parents about the perspective of being "low income" in the US compared to the world. Basically his bottom line was that a) compared to most of the world we have so very much and b) we have choices in how we view life...with so many options available for higher ed.

I work in a high school and one of the things that drives me absolutely INSANE is when I hear students bash our country...some even saying they HATE it! We do not have a perfect country, but there's so much that's good. I realize this doesn't quite relate to the topic of religion, but in my mind it connected to my previous paragraph...loosely, anyway! :)

Anyway, it's my turn to digress!

So, since I know I won't offend you...I say God bless you.

i absolutely agree with you all albeit i am from India..all us 12th graders who will be in some college or the other this fall must remember that we are just 17-18 years old with the major chunk of our life left to enjoy..we must believe that we will end up at our RIGHT place albeit it may not seem so when we get our decisions..good luck

amen!!! im in the same situation. i have a full ride at a decent state school, and i know that even if i get into yale, i probably will not be able to afford it. we are truly blessed in this country. God has given us a ton of abilities to even be marginally competitive at a school like yale.

agree with all of you. US is a lot better than most other countries. HOWEVER, just because it's so good (nowhere near perfect) and a lot better than most countries doesn't mean we can't strive to become better, more equal etc.
I think one should realize how lucky one is being in the United States, but we should work hard to get it to a point where one can barely make it better.
Hope this made sense, I think you get the point.

Oh don't take it the wrong way IndiaRubber, from most of my friends who are Indian, India is coming along way. Not to say India is bad, I have never been there.

Sorry if we offended you IndiaRubber, sometimes we Americans get really zealous about our country.

Just having the opportunity to a college education is such a blessing. I feel that there are people in this country who take advantage of a college education and don't take it as seriously when people in other area's would do so much just for a chance to go to school. In end, it's not just always about what school you go to, but just that your able to study and gain a college degree.

i absolutely agree.
i tend to forget about where i have been accepted because im worrying about the colleges i have not heard from yet..
i am so grateful that i have a couple excellent schools to choose from already.

I'm an international student who needs financial aid.. I have been living in the U.S. for 5 years now, but still do not have permanent residency. Plus, I can't afford to pay more than 6,000 a year.

Throughout my high school career, I was given many unusual opportunities (mostly EC-wise).. I also worked hard in academics so I could apply for prestigious colleges with generous financial aid for int'l students. However, all my accomplishments wouldn't have been possible without the guidance of God.

Finally college acceptance letters are coming out!
I believe that I'll be attending college with the help of financial aid this coming fall, and I'm just thankful that God has allowed me to even dream of going to college. I could have ended working full-time if it wasn't for God... and I would've hated to waste my potential and talent. I want to use college education and my future career for God. My little dream :) My life seriously would've been so miserable without the opportunities God has given me.
