A break from college - how long did yours last?

I just want to hear from those who took off more than one semester from college. How did your subsequent life shape? Did you go back to school?

Looking back, do you consider it to have been a good decision? Would you do anything differently?

Well, Spring of 2010 I had a lot of personal issues, which started affecting my grades, which exacerbated those issues… bad cycle that made me take a leave of absence from university. I applied for re-enrollment and was accepted for Fall of 2010 but I spent about 4 and a half months working at a grocery store.

Went back to school, got a 3.6 last semester. I guess in a sense it helped kick me into gear and realize that I do NOT wanna work some menial job the rest of my life… but it would have been a lot better if I had just taken a gap year after high school instead.

11 year break.

I don’t regret my decision to leave school when I did. Still wish I left a semester earlier (like I wanted to) but my parents talked me into staying another semester (which I bombed).

Actually wish I had returned a year earlier, but glad I did not wait longer than I did. Had the foresight to realize many things in my industry were changing and it was the right time to return to school as part of a career change.

I will say this, the absolute hardest part of going back was walking into the admissions office and registering. Of course I’ve had many difficult classes since then, but it takes a lot of self motivation to start school again in your early 30’s.

I would like to know this as well, bump.

I plan on taking a couple of semesters off, but not one right after another.
Instead for research purposes.
