I think this question reeks of someone with the “do something enriching with your time mentality, don’t give yourself up to the devil when you’re young” mentality :)

Obviously Haas is prestigious. Employers, other programs, etc definitely recognize prestige, especially when you’re exiting undergrad without very much experience. It’s like how people routinely recruit a lot of undergrads from Berkeley EECS, especially those with good programming background; they usually have pretty good math skills and they can code – that gets you somewhere.

In some ways, as sakky said, Ivies get you places at times regardless of your major, because of the attached name.

Even at a school that isn’t super prestigious for business, sometimes it’s just what makes sense for the people who want to just go get a job, and don’t care about music history, EE, math, poetry, etc. Some people just want a job, and actually don’t mind business majors.

In fact, what if they want to get out of school and do their own thing - maybe start a business after saving up? Some places they get hired may give them pretty decent pay early on, and eventually they may do whatever they want.

Not everyone really wants to go to grad school. Another thing shocking to some people.
