My dream school is MIT, I know their admission rate is extremely competitive, but I want to try. I’m a freshman in high school taking 3 honors and 1 AP class (the most I could possibly take this year). The class is AP Euro, and it’s pretty tough. I’ve been getting a “B” each quarter, and I got a high “C” on the midterm. In my school, we have no final in AP classes which means that our final grade is only out of 90% (20% per quarter and 10% for the midterm). So, if I were to keep going how I’m going, my final grade in the class may end up as a “C”. Is this going to tear apart my transcript completely? I get all “A”’s in my other classes; including honors. Also, my school doesn’t weight “C”’s in AP classes.
I’m a sophomore taking AP Euro, I can agree it’s extremely tough. I don’t know why they let you take it, because it’s for juniors and seniors. I was surprised when I signed up for it. I don’t think after that grade it’s impossible to get into MIT, considering it is a history AP, but it will be difficult. Most people applying to MIT don’t have any Cs, possibly a B+. I would not recommend taking APUSH as I’ve heard they’re very similar. I struggled to get an A- first semester, so I understand.
I’m a senior that just got rejected from MIT, if you have a strong enough application by the beginning of your senior year that you’re competitive enough for MIT, a C in AP class you took a freshman won’t be what breaks it. I had a straight A’s transcript with 7 honors and 12 AP classes over 4 years when I applied and still didn’t even get deferred. If you really want to get into MIT, my suggestion is to get involved in extracurriculars and projects early on to make you stand out when it’s time to actually apply.
I don’t see how B’s weighted as 80% and a high C weighted as 10% would average out to a C
