A Career

I have always been interested in medicine and I want to pursue surgery, possibly neurosurgery. In the case that I don't become a doctor, does anyone know what other careers suit me? I love math, biology, chemistry, medicine, science in general, art, and helping people. I am quite shy and pays a lot of attention to detail. Hope this is enough information to describe me.

Shy in general doesn't work in medicine, but you can get over that. If you like medicine, math and all things science, then biomedical engineering is a good back up. Has all of the above in it. But its lots of work.

What about nursing? This may or may not apply to the US, but in Canada, it's expected there will be a shortage of nurses in the coming years as many of the current nurses retire.

Just to throw something out there, since you mention art, what about a medical illustrator? http://www.caahep.org/programs.aspx?ID=careers From this webpage, it looks like they make a fairly good living. http://www.ama-assn.org/ama/pub/category/6038.html
