So… what do you think?

Would be easier for people to guess knowing what your intended major is.

do you have to have an intended major to apply there? Well i guess political science.

No, you can apply as undecided in CAS, but it's very hard to tell you what your chances are without knowing that, as each school has very different requirements and acceptance rates.

The 470 m and ACT 24 (I wouldn't send that if I were you) could really hurt what otherwise would be very good chances. Good luck.

I agree. If you can really focus on bringing up that math score that would make a huge difference and put you in the running. What the previous poster meant is that some schools within BU may have higher requirements that others, so Communicatiosn, SMG (School of Mangement) could be more competive than say CAS and of couse CGS.

The following was taken from the BU Common Data Sheet. It is statistics from LAST year's admitted class.

BU:
Middle 50% V = 600-690
Middle 50% M = 621-700

Percent admitted with:
V score 500-599: 21.5 %
V score 400-499: 0 %
M score 500-599: 17 %
M score 400-499: 0 %

Average GPA = 3.54; 60% of incoming freshman were in top 10% of class

The trouble with those numbers is that they do not tell you anything about your chances at a particular school of BU; they reflect only a nonexistent "average" admissions scenario.
In the school of music, the acceptance rate is lower than in CAS, about 33%, but the SAT scores and GPA lower. Conversely, a 1600 and 4.0 aren't going to be much help if you can't play/sing/paint/act/sculptor.
Similarly, SAR, COM, SMG, and others have admissions requirements well removed from those of CAS and CGS.
Perhaps worst of all, these averaged figures make various individual schools of the university look less selective than they are.

Here's the look at the class of 2009.

http://www.bu.edu/admissions/apply/class.html

Class of 09--so does that link above mean that 25% of kids tested over 1410 on the SAT, what about the new SAT?
Is there an average score in the middle range?

The new SAT wasn't considered for this year's admissions.

Yes-- 25% of matriculating students scored over 1410 on the SAT and 31 on the ACT.

Thanks Kinshasa, Was there also an average SAT? I'm assuming it would be around 1300 or so.

The 50% range was 1270-1410, so 1340 would be the exact middle of that range.

I always thought the exact average was calculated differently since it took in the middle of the lowest and highest scores overall. For instance, the 25% over 1410 could be almost all in the 1400s or have signifacnt numbers in the 1500s so wouldn't that make a difference?t

The OP combined CR (700) and math (470) was 1170. The CR score is quite fine. If she can bring that math score up into the mid 500's or higher, her chances at BU will improve significantly. The writing subtest is good also, but BU as most other school does not really know how they will be using that score.

I called admissions and went to take a tour of BU so I sat through the info hour... they are counting the writing section so thus out of 2400 all together.
