A couple of questions--ECs/Scheduling

The only sport I play is soccer. I’m decent at it, but I’m not exactly hardcore or anything. I don’t think I’ll make varsity next year, though I might because there are only 3 incoming juniors, none of whom are great, but there are a lot of really good incoming sophomores who would make it. But if I do make the team, I will definitely not be playing much at all. My school doesn’t allow juniors to play on JV. So I kind of feel spending 3-4 hours after school watching soccer games everyday isn’t worth the time commitment. I’d much rather be somewhere where I would actually be doing something.

The problem is, my mom thinks I should stick with it so that I have a sport on my college application. My passion is art, but because I moved in 8th grade, I couldn’t take the advanced art program and the regular art program won’t fit into my schedule. I’m taking art classes after school, which I can’t do when I have soccer, so if I don’t do soccer I will continue taking art classes and will get involved in the costume and set design for our school theater. My mom doesn’t think being involved in theater production will be appreciated by colleges like soccer would be. Is this true?

I’m doing my Junior year schedule but I’m not sure what to take: a fourth year of French Honors or AP Statistics

PROS for taking French: Colleges like 4 years of a language; it’s an easy class so it would provide a resting period during my day in which I’ll be taking 5APs and another Honors course
CONS for taking French: The class is a joke because the teacher can’t control it and you don’t learn anything
PROS for taking Statistics: I’ve heard that it can be used in any career and I’d like to look into marketing, where this would be important
CONS for taking Statistics: I wouldn’t be able to get 4 years of a language; I could always take it senior year anyways

anyone?

Do what you want to do. And colleges don't care whether you do soccer or art, just as long as you're doing it because you want to, and not to impress colleges.

you know better than your mom what you wnat to do.

Talk to people that are currently in french 4 and ap stat. Ideally people that are in/have already taken both. See what their opinions are as to the more worthwhile class. Then make your decision.

"My mom doesn't think being involved in theater production will be appreciated by colleges like soccer would be. Is this true?"

That's complete BS. Put your heart into something you love and that you are passionate about. Don't conform to something for the purpose of an application. Colleges want to see kids who are healthy and happy and pursuing something that they love, not kids who have rigidly stuck themselves into something that they have no passion for.

Go be an artist. Just love what you do.

And I would probably go for the French. Language is valuable. Statistics can be taken in college (or your senior year).

Ask people in your school that took Stats AP or French AP. Ask them which program is better. For example at my school the Stats program was great, but Physics AP was so-so. So, i ended up going with stats.
