A couple of questions (JMC, Honors College)

Hey guys, I'll be applying to MSU as one of my choices this fall. I want to major in Political Science/International Relations, but I had a few questions about how MSU is set up in terms of classes and enrolling in the individual colleges.

Does a student have to live on campus in order to be enrolled in the IR program at James Madison College? I prefer to live off-campus.

Does enrollment in the Honors College preclude enrollment in James Madison or the regular colleges, e.g. the College of Social Science? Is the Honors College just a distinction, that is, you still take classes in the other colleges?

Thanks for the help!

Yes, all JMC freshman are required to live on campus in Case. TRUST ME, you want to live on campus your first year.

No, absolutely not! You still take JMC classes or any other classes, you just take special honors sections of the class. You are in a class with other honors college/academic scholars.

^^^ just to add on to what romanigypsyeyes said, in very isolated occasions they do allow students to live off-campus (or in a different dorm from case). However those would require special granted permissions. But I’d just like to emphasize how important it is to live in a dorm with your peers at least for your 1st year of college.

The honors college is in addition to your main college (where your major resides). Even though your major is in one specific college, you can still take courses in any of the other colleges.
