A couple of questions

I am looking into applying to Rutgers and have a few questions.

Can someone explain to me the whole multiple campus thing at the New Brunswick campus? Experiences?

Do students often travel to New York City? How long does it take? Can you use public transportation? (because I wouldn’t have a car up there, yet)

Thanks.

The multiple campus thing seems really intimidating at first but it's really easy to understand. The main campuses are College Ave, Busch, Livingston, and Cook/Douglass. Transportation between the campuses is provided by buses(although some people ride their bikes). The buses run fairly often during normal hours so your wait shouldn't be bad. It is, however, tough to get to class on time if your classes are on different campuses, hence the schools attempt at having staggered class schedules for different campuses. Between Busch and Livingston, though, classes are scheduled at the same time and 20 minutes between classes usually isn't enough. It's all something that you'll get used to. The pharm school and most math/science/engineering classes are on Busch so if you're interested in those majors you might be able to stay on one campus all day.

NYC is pretty popular. By train it only takes about 45 minutes to an hour to get from New Brunswick to NY Penn Station. The station is basically on campus, you can either walk there or take the bus there.

how does the bus system work on new brunswick? do the buses stop at only one location on each campus or are there multiple locations where the buses stop at?

yes there are multiple stops on each campus.
