A couple questions about Early Decision

I was wondering about two things:

  1. Can you have more than two teachers to write recommendations, and if so, how do you add recommenders to your MyMIT account? I asked my AP Computer Science teacher (it was ultimately through her letter that a student got into MIT a few years ago from my school), but I also plan to ask my AP Calc teacher (who already wrote a letter of recommendation for other colleges) and my AP Gov teacher (who would be my “humanities” teacher).

  2. Personally, my SAT Subjects are not where I want them to be, and I am planning to retake them in December. While this is technically too late to send for Early Application, could I send in my December scores in say, January, if I am deferred to RA?

  1. You can have more than one teacher write a recommendation for you, but I wouldn’t do that unless each have something different to add about an aspect of your personality. The adcoms have enough to read that it’s really not fair to them if you send in references that are redundant. I highly doubt that any student was accepted from your school based on one particular teacher’s recommendation and if it was the case, how anyone would know that. If you do see a good reason for sending both there is no need to add it to your MyMIT account. Just invite all three teachers to write one.

  2. You certainly can send your December scores in. It’s an excellent idea, and it’s what my own daughter did as well. Her deferral did turn into an acceptance during the regular decision round.

Thank you!
