I'm a high school senior living in rural San Diego County. I applied to SDSU about a month ago because of the lower cost of tuition and the proximity to my home (1 hour away instead of 1:30+ for UCSD) and have read that it's a pretty good school. There are, however, a couple things that trouble me and it'd be great if anyone could reassure me. :)
I read a review suggesting that the technology used on campus varies from class to class with some still using chalk boards and 1988 vhs tapes as core material. It was just one persons review on yelp so i'm taking it with a grain of salt, but if this is truly the case it'd like to know for sure. I'm pursuing a B.S. in Computer Science so a school that is up to date with the recent technology is important to me.
If anyone could tell me how their general experience has been as SDSU that would be nice too. How have the professors been? Do they provide enough personal attention considering the the large student population? And how's the social life for people who take their education seriously? I'm not really a party guy so i'm wondering if there's room for people like me. I'd like for there to be enough people I can relate to.
I'm looking forward to it. Thanks!

This is my first semester at SDSU, after transferring from Palomar. My major is a Art History.
- I’m taking two art history classes, classical mythology(humanities req), and geology(nat sci req). Two of my classes are in newer buildings, the other two are in the older art N building. None of my classes have used VHS tapes, they all have projectors, PowerPoint, slides, etc. The classroom in GMCS where I took my WPA had chalk boards. I don’t know how that would impact your education negatively though. My art classes have a mobile chalk board, which isn’t used, the other classes have white dry erase boards. My husband is in Electrical Engineering, he’s never complained about the technology being insufficient. I don’t like the 80’s style desk chair combos, but those are not in all classes either.
- General experience has been good. My art professor is awesome, and so so helpful. She will go out of her way to help you if you need it. My classics professor is flighty, and unpredictable, but seems passionate and always offers extra help. My geology prof. is very knowledgeable, and clear. They all have office hours. My husband complains about a lot of his professors, for various reasons. Check Rate my Professor, they are pretty accurate descriptions in my experience.
- I’m a 29(shh…) year old, married woman, who is raising my 5 year old nephew. I’m not interested in partying. There are constant reminders and invitations to academically social/ regular social events. If you want to be involved in something, it’s easy to find opportunities. If you want to be left alone, there’s no pressure to participate in extracurricular activities. I didn’t come in to SDSU as a freshman, but in my experience the vibe is pretty much ‘do what you want’. Very laid back, but with lots of options to keep you busy if that’s what you want.
